🚨 Smart Alert & Warning Signs

• Urgent "Needs": They claim your roof, chimney, or driveway is dangerous and needs immediate, expensive fixing
• "Just Passing" Scam: They knock unexpectedly, claiming they have leftover materials from a nearby job
• Cash-Only Demands: Refusal to accept bank transfers, credit cards, or provide written invoices/receipts
• Pressure Tactics: Creating panic to prevent you from getting a second opinion or researching them
• Vague Details: No branded vehicle, no verifiable business address, or only a mobile phone number 

💡 How to Protect Yourself

• Never agree to work from an uninvited, cold-caller
• Never pay large sums in cash upfront
• Get at least 3 written quotes for any work
• Verify them on trusted sites like Checkatrade, TrustMark, or Buy With Confidence
• Use a "No Cold Calling" sticker to deter scammers
• Check ID: Ask for ID and verify credentials, such as Gas Safe or NICEIC

🛡️ If You Have Been Targeted

• Stop All Contact: Do not give them more money or information
